Pagoda Hill
A few minutes down from the Elephant Hill on the west bank is a small hill topped with a pagoda. The hexagonal pagoda is called Longevity Buddha Pagoda (Shoufo Ta) dating from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It is said the second floor has stone Buddha figurines on display and the hill is compassed in Chuanshan Park. In autumn, the hill illuminated with red maples is very charming. Wangfu Hill on the west bank. At the top of the hill stands a stone in the shape of a man in ancient Chinese costume, facing north. This stone is called 'Immortal Stone'. Halfway down the hill there is another stone shaped like a woman looking into the distance, with a child on her back. This stone is called Wangfu Rock (Yearning-for-husband's-return Rock). Ox Gorge
The waters of the Li River are cut into two at Ox Gorge and the sand beach in the river is divided into three parts. In ancient times, the grand view formed by the water that slapped against the sheer cliff was highly regarded by the famous traveler Xu Xiake of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Having been dredged and reconstructed several times, the left branch was set as the present-day mainstream of the river. Half-Side Ferry (Ban Bian Du)
Not very far from the Crown Cave on the western bank, a huge rock descends into the river and cuts off a footpath by the water edge. Villagers have to take a ferry to reach the other side and continue the way. So, this spot gets its name Half-Side Ferry (for usually ferry means to transport people by boat across a body of water and reach the opposite bank)
Yangdi to Xingping
the river passes an endless procession of distinct peaks and bamboo groves and the stunning landscape. This part is the highlight of the cruise. Pinnacled peaks pop up and surprise visitors at each bend of the river. Water buffalos patrol on the fields; ducks paddle in the waters; peasants reap paddies in front of village houses; fishermen use the cormorants to catch the fish and return them to the boat and kids go home singing songs. All these create an idyllic and beautiful scene of the life removed from concrete cities.
Mural Hill
A 100-meter-high cliff face, which has been weathered and has stratified rock surface in various shades of colors. It is rumored that the colors present nine horses and a person who can identify them out is considered smart. Legendary stories are given to hill rocks and peaks and it is a delightful experience to appreciate the stunning landscape while listening to tour guide's interpretation of the stories behind it. Yellow Cloth Shoal
It is like a cloth piece and people called it Yellow Cloth Shoal. There are seven green peaks standing nearby. A legend goes that the seven peaks are fairy girls from the heaven who took baths in the river. Enthralled by the charming scene, they stayed here and become into the peaks. With verdant bamboos, the green peaks under the blue sky reflected on the quiet waters create a spectacular scene. Sometimes, people doubt they see boats floating on hill tops. Many Chinese paintings and poems present this charming scene and tourists run out of their films for it.
Xingping
The river takes a big turn at Xingping and endowed with beautiful and poetic scenery. It has been reproduced in many Chinese landscape paintings. Even the newly-issued 20 RMB note has the scenery on its back. A photographer once said: 'Shots from any perspective for this place turn to be impressive and stunning'.
The fishing village is worthy a visit. It is an age-old castle complex survived from over 500 years ago. Although some courtyard buildings have weathered through ages, the simple but elegant flying-eaves, roofs with colorful paintings, lattice windows and unique timber structures present the folk residence from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Villagers have the same surname of Zhao, so it is rumored that they are descendents of the imperial family in the Song Dynasty. Both Dr. Sun Yet-sun, the pioneer of China's democratic revolution and US president Colinton paid a visit to the village on their visits to Li River.

HuangLo Yao Village- Just on the other side of the Longji Terraces Mountain, visitors can enjoy the scenic views and also experience the unique culture of the Red Yao people. However, as history took its course, the waterways were silted up, rivers and lakes were separated and hindered, water quality became bad and cultural relics were buried. The great concept of Guilin on the water didn't exist any more.

At the turn of this century, the Two Rivers and Four Lakes made a come-back. The recreated thousand-year old Waterway and its combination of historic and modern culture, Guilin's galaxy of natural attractions and an ecological harmony between man and nature now all coexist. The wonderful scenery of the water city as described in a poem, "A thousand hills stand around the city, a river flows through it" has now reappeared.

Towing high up in the Shan Lake, the two towers-Golden Tower and Silver Tower are quite an eye-striking sights around. The Golden Tower is a nine-storeyed architecture of 41 meters high. Built with copper, it ranks as the highest tower as its kind. The Silver Tower, 35 meters high, is decorated with colored glaze all through. The two towers are linked by aquarium under the water. Bearing colorful designs on the doors, windows etc. they look stately, yet graceful.

Banyan Lake and Cedar Lake are located in downtown Guilin . They are like two pieces of crystal embedded in the central part of the city. The origin of both parks dates back to Tang Dynasty when they were part of a city moat. As Guilin expanded to the south, the moat became a lake within the city area.

Built in Song-Dynasty, Blue Ribbon Bridge (now Sun Bridge ) separates the lakes. The Cedar Lake was named after the cedar trees growing on the shore and the Banyan Part got its name because of a large banyan tree standing on shore near the 1,000-year-old South City Gate. The two lakes together were often referred to as Round Lake . A Zigzag bridges lead to the Mid-lake Isle , which is dotted with long corridors, waterside pavilions and ancient buildings.

The legend tells the tale of Liu Sanjie who had a beautiful voice at very early age. Her voice was so beautiful it even could raise the dead. It became such a famous story that in 1960 a movie was released.

The story in the movie as in the legend and the movie is about a local gangster: Mo Huairen. The gangster falls in love with Liu Sanjie and wished to make her his concubine. The boyfriend and his friends in the village free her and the couple escape turning themselves in a pair of larks.

Zhang Yimou is the director of the show. By the time he created the show in Yangshuo, there's one now in Lijiang Yunnan too and another coming up in Hangzhou , he was already a famous director and won many prizes in and outside China.

Zhang Yimou uses the natural resources (therefore the name "Water show") of Yangshuo to give his show a maximum effect. The usage of lights and water emphasizes the beauty of the Li River and the limestone mountains in a way no one had seen ever.

This is a big performance with natural stage on water that you might have never seen or experienced before. An area of 2 kms along Lijiang River and 12 peaks as stage setting, tighter with boundless sky, compose the Shanshui Theatre with mountains and rivers the largest natural theatre in the world.

In this masterpiece of the creator, a brand-new performance on the natural stage setting of Guilin scenery is produced. Unlike the traditional artificial stage performance, the performance on the natural stage is a great work of man and god. No one knows how long this picturesque scenery has been waiting in rain and mists. Is its graceful image made for us? Peaks appearing indistinctly, the reflection of mountains in the water, misty rain and the sound of charming in the bamboo forest, are all ready to join in the performance as interludes. Suddenly this makes us learn the miraculous charm of this performance: we only do half of the work while the other half is done by the creator whose improvisation makes each scene fresh to us.

The performance named Folk Song Festival of Liu Sanjie (the Third Sisters of Liu)-Beautiful Lijiang River is held in the Natural Theatre, Yangshuo., China. Located at the joining point of Lijiang River and Tianjia River, the theatre faces the widely-known Scholar's Page Hill across the river.

Its auditorium looks like a green terrace with a panorama vision. Sitting there, the audience can natural scenery within an area of 2 kms along the river and the performance. Lighting and stereo sets are designed by cover means in order to integrate with the nature. There are 2200 seats for the audience, of which 2000 are for the ordinary people, 180 for VIPs and 20 for presidents.

It is a rare opportunity to get a close look at the fishing and people always wonder how these birds can fish for people. Those who are interested will get the answer and experience after they make reservation. People get aboard on a big boat(passenger capacity:30-60 pax). It drifts while the bamboo rafts following so that tourists can watch the performance clearly.

With the order from fisherman, the well-trained cormorants will dive into water to find fish and catch them. They are so good at diving that they can go under water for quite a long time. When they succeed in getting any fish, they will proudly swim back to the raft and show off to the fisherman.

The fisherman usually award one or two very small fish to encourage them. Of course, the birds also swallow the small fish when they catch. Sometimes they do get big carps that weigh 3-4 pounds. With the straw or rope tied around their necks, they can not swallow these big carps they catch. To some extent, this is quite cruel and unfair to the birds. The poor but interesting birds work for man, not for themselves!

The performance generally lasts 45 minutes or so. When the performance is over, tourists surely will get a lot of ideas about how the cormorants do fishing for people.

Day 5 Guilin Country Tour

D5 Guilin / Yangshuo
Transfer to Zhujiang pier (50min). Cruise on Li River to Yangshuo, the most beautiful lime stone formation in China, even in the world. It is like a natural cubic Chinese painting gallery, you need to bring enough films for you may want to take pictures every minute. Disembark at Yangshuo, visit the lovely small town, enjoy a stroll through the tiny, pedestrian streets of Yangshuo. Transfer to your hotel in Yangshuo. A short bicking tours in the countryside. D3 Shooting the sunrise at about 6:00 in the morning on Li River and then drive to Xingping. The building of ancient Xingping Town, the sceneries arround Xingping Shoot the sunrise with the fishermen and cormorants are the main topics of photo shooting of the day. In the evening the sunset scenery of Dragon river, Stay in Yangshuo.

D4 Get up in the morning and go to mountaintop of Green Lutus peak (the mountain road is slippery on rainy day, plan can be cancelled if it rains). Stay about 30 minutes on the top and shooting sunrise of Dongling. After breakfast, go to Yulong river(Dragon river) and shoot the old bridge on the river, leave for the airport in the afternoon.

D2 Guilin to Cat Mountain
Get up early in the morning, we get to Hemlock Park in Cat Mountain. Shooting at the primitive hemlock forest and shooting the natural sceneries of the sources of Li River, Zijiang River and Qujiang River. Then check in the hotel in Cat Mountain at about 12:30. We will go to the mountain top to shoot the sceneries along and the sunset images on the top of the mountains.

D3 Cat Mountain and Ziyuan
Get up at 05:00 in the morning and shoot the sunrise and the cloud. Leave for Ziyuan county at about 09:00. The drive to Zijiang and the drifting along the Zijiang River, shooting scenries along the river. At about 18:00,drive back to Ziyuan county.


D4 Ziyuan and Xing'an
Get up early at 05:40 and go to the National Forest Park. It is a park with many wonderful scenic spots, characteristic of Danxia landform at Bajiaozhaiand the shapes and images there are very peculiar. We will go to a little town call Meixi at 11:00. The head for Baoding Waterfall shooting after lunch. Then at 15:30 drive to Xing'An county, shooting Water Street scenery. At ahout 18:00 end the shooting and drive to Guilin Airport for departure.

D2 Guilin & Longji
This morning, we get to Yaoshan for a photo shooting warm up if weather permits, or Yao Mountain in the suburb of Guilin. Yaoshan is the highest mountain in guilin city£¬and a cable chair can be taken up to the top of the mountain. It is quite beautiful to take photos of the karst formed mountains around. After Yaoshan, drive to Longji terraced field, where we start our gentle hike up to the terraces for sunset shooting. Stay in Longji.

D3 Longji & Guilin
Sunrise shooting in the morning around the terrace or the village, and then leave Longji for Guilin at about 10 am. After lunch, here will be a city tour include the Elephant Trunk hill, which has been regarded as the symbol of the city. Then drive to visit the Reed Flute Cave. It is the largest and most impressive cave in Guilin. After our dinner, we continue our photo shooting of the night view of the city. We will hang along the two lakes for the double pagoda in the Shanhu Lake with lights, then to the ancient city gate of Guilin and the bridges on the waters in the city. Stay in Guilin hotel.

D4 Guilin to Yangshuo
Drive to Yangshuo, where is a small town but quite well known for its beautiful landscape. Our photo shooting will focus on the other countryside scenery near Yangshuo at Gaotian and along the Yulong River. Then, we can get up to the Moon hill for the birds' eye view of the mountains around Gaotian area. The villages nestle down the steep hills are also very charming as well. Drive to Xingping for photo shooting. Xingping, an old town with over 800 years history, is one of the best places to shoot the Li River. Another amazingly beautiful scenery which is the fishing village in Xingping.

With this balloon flight, you can enjoy a superb and magnificent panorama of the region and see the whole of Yangshuo, a very small and picturesque town surrounded by karst limestone mountains.

Undertaking a hot-air ballooning trip over Yangshuo is an original and amazing way of discovering its breath-taking landscapes. You'll have the opportunity to fly over the misty landscape and see the breathtaking beauty of the town and its surrounding area.

The Li River crosses the region, and makes it look like a real paradise full of green hills, silky water and ancient bridges. You will travel over the peaks surrounding Yangshuo. The most famous is the Green Lotus Peak mainly because of its flat northern face, resembling an ancient bronze mirror. Then, drift over the Big Banyan, a large and impressive tree aged around 400 years.

If you try, you will not only feel the scenery described in a poem as "the river seems to be a green silk ribbon while the hills are just like jasper hairpins", but also enjoy the marvelous spectacle of houses hidden in the Green Lotus Peak.

Upon your arrival in Guilin, our professional tour guide will meet you at Guilin airport and transfer to your hotel. Then visit the Elephant Trunk Hill park in the afternoon.
Elephant Trunk Hill: At the confluence of Li River and Peach Blossom River in down town of Guilin city, national 4A scenery spot. The Water Moon Cave is close to the river. The water flows through it and the cave looks like a moon floating in the water. The stone drooped into the water like an elephant drinking the water of the Li River.

D2 Guilin-Li River Cruise-Yangshuo (B,L,D)
Drive 1 hour to Zhujiang Pier and cruise down the Li River to Yangshuo which takes 3-4 hours. Enjoy the most beautiful landscape in China, have lunch on board. Disembark your ship when arriving Yangshuo. Free in Yangshuo in the afternoon. then stay in Yangshuo hotel or drive back to Guilin (optional).

D3 Yangshuo Guilin Departure (B,L,D)
Today's excursion will bring you to the Seven Star Park and Maping Mosque in the park and the Reed Flute Cave. Transfer to Guilin airport for your departure, end of service.
Seven Star Park: A beautiful park which covers 120 hectares with elegant mountains, clear water, miraculous stone forest, deep and serene valleys, plentiful animals and plants and valued cultural relics. The main sights contain Flower Bridge, Putuo Mountain, Seven Stars Cave, Camel Hill, Crescent Mountain, Maping Mosque, Guihai Stele Forest and Light of China Square.
Reed Flute Cave: Known as 'the Palace of Natural Arts' this large and well-presented cave system has some remarkable formations.
